Washington Education Association

Location: Washington

Child care associations promote the education and well-being of children, families, and child care providers.

The Washington Education Association (WEA) acts as the voice of all educators in the public sphere in Washington. The WEA works to achieve quality education with reasonable class sizes. High-quality education is to provided by educators getting compensated a fair wage while receiving respect for the great responsibilities they hold. The WEA is made up of over 85,000 members all working towards improving the public education system.

Since their creation in 1889, the WEA has achieved great successes for educators and students alike. The WEA has created teacher retirement plans, paid sick leave, as well as obtaining collective bargaining rights for school employees. The WEA has also successfully called to lawmakers to respect approved class size limits and educator cost-of-living increases. Most recently, the WEA has won the right for voter approval to make it easier for communities to approve school levies. In the present day, the WEA works to achieve funding for education, maintain reasonable class sizes, as well as to provide professional pay and changes to the standardized testing and teacher evaluations.
