Early Returns: Manitoba’s Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework for Preschool Centres and Nursery Schools
Location: Manitoba, CA
Authors: Manitoba Child Care Program
Early Returns: Manitoba’s Early Learning and Child Care Curriculum Framework for Preschool Centres and Nursery Schools is a key component of Manitoba’s commitment to supporting quality in early learning and child care programs. The framework is based on the belief that it is essential for early learning and child care programs in Manitoba to demonstrate quality and foster social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children. It encourages a developmentally appropriate early learning and child care practice that is child-centred, reflects family and community contexts and encourages meaningful partnerships between each child, his or her family and early learning and child care staff.
The Early Returns Curriculum Framework supports staff at preschool centres and nursery schools to develop, describe and enhance their curriculum. The framework also helps staff design play-based, developmentally appropriate interactions, relationships, environments and experiences to allow all children to develop to their fullest potential.
Early Returns is based on current research and best practices and aims not only to help preschool centres and nursery schools develop curriculum, but also write statements that effectively describe their curriculum. This curriculum information enhances the quality of child care and early learning programs in Manitoba by helping child care providers and early childhood educators think about what they do in practice, explain the reasons for this practice, and evaluate and enhance program curriculum accordingly.
