North Dakota Early Learning Guidelines

Location: North Dakota, US

North Dakota’s Early Learning Guidelines were created to create a standardized set of guidelines for parents and educators. The document has been separated into two separate sections, one focusing on children from birth to three years of age, with the second focusing on children aged three to five. The guidelines are voluntary and are not to be used in lieu of a curriculum, as a diagnostic tool, or to hold children back from various programs and activities.

The guidelines were created to represent the child as a whole, including perspectives, values, as well as physical health. There are eight domains listed in the guidelines, they are as followed; health and physical development, social and emotional development, approaches to learning, expressive arts and creative thinking, language and literacy, science and problem solving, and social studies. As each children develop physically, social, emotionally, cognitively, as well as linguistically simultaneously, it is essential to cover all aspects in the observations and documentation of the development by teachers and parents alike.
